DEMAREST, NJ, May 05, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joseph Newman Connolly, a.k.a. Joseph N. Connolly, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Connolly enjoyed a fulfilling career as Senior Quality Control Specialist III at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and New York City Transit Authority (MTA-NYCTA). As an expert in quality assurance and quality engineering, he worked for 23 years for NYCTA, 16 years in the Centralized Electronics Division, which was responsible for repairing parts of the New York City train and bus systems. In his role, Mr. Connolly directed activities related to Metro North Railroad repair and return and provided technical support and expertise for in-house maintenance workers.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Connolly worked at Raytheon Corporation as a manufacturing engineer for Patriot missile systems. Mr. Connolly earned a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering from Pratt Institute in 1982. He went on to obtain a Master of Science in engineering management from Clarkson University in 1994 and, in 2020, he became a PhD candidate for Administration and Leadership; Supervisor of Secondary Education at The College of New Jersey. As a commitment to his profession, he is active with the IEEE Standards Association, the American Society for Quality Control, (CQE) International Food and Safety Quality Council, 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus, and member and usher of his local parish, St, Joseph's of Demarest, NJ.
Upon graduating with his undergraduate degree, Mr. Connolly accepted a position as a component design engineer, then staff quality engineer at IBM Corporate Headquarters, where he worked with vendors to implement the Six Sigma program, assigning acceptable outgoing quality levels (AOQL) for hi-reliability components. His assignment included testing at an Independent Test Lab (ITL) in Austin and Plano, Texas for component acceptance at IBM. He made presentations to senior management on achieving ISO 9000 technical and business objectives. During his time at IBM, he earned an IBM Cost Effectiveness Award in both 1990 and 1991. After 11 years with the company, Mr. Connolly left IBM to work overseas, teaching international baccalaureate mathematics and computer science to high school students at the International American Schools in the Philippines and Colegio Maya, International School in Guatemala.
Upon returning to the U.S. in 2000, Mr. Connolly was hired as a Senior Quality Specialist II for the MTA-NYCTA. In his years with the Authority, he interacted with various NYCT groups, including RTO/ROS, MOW, Warranty/QA, Contracts and Administration, Production and Procurement and Outside Consultants, i.e. LTK. He worked on electronic equipment and successfully developed a quality assurance and quality control programs (FAI, PSI, FMI and QA) for servicing subway equipment and developed and implemented corrective actions and training tools. Other responsibilities included preparing technical reports and performing activities in support of the quality requirement for in-house projects for New Millennium 2000 trains. In addition, he was a certified National Safety Council, Defensive Driving instructor for the MTA-NYCTA from 2015 until his retirement in 2022.
Known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Mr. Connolly is a board of trustee voting member of Demarest Nature Center Association and was Chairman, active with the Demarest Shade Tree Commission, Demarest Nature Center and Knights of Columbus. He served as a Councilman in the State of New Jersey Bergen County Council 39th Legislative District in 2015.
Since retiring in December 2022, Mr. Connolly looks forward to spending his retirement relaxing and traveling, especially spending time in his mother's native country of India. He also hopes to go into consulting so his vast expertise can benefit other companies.
