WAUNAKEE, WI, May 19, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Becker has been selected for recognition in Marquis Who's Who, a leader in biographical reference volumes for over 120 years. Marquis Who's Who showcases the achievements of professionals chosen based on their current reference value. Position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.
Mr. Becker began his career at age 19 as a decorated combat correspondent for Stars and Stripes during the Vietnam War, learning the trade alongside many of America's leading correspondents. His career includes stints as a writer for the Associated Press, publisher of his own newspaper in rural Wisconsin, Executive Assistant to that state's Attorney General, Counselor to the Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, and a senior executive at the U.S. Department of Energy.
Mr. Becker conceived and assisted in a pioneering project to relocate a flood-prone community to higher ground in the late 1980s, thereby demonstrating an environmentally sensitive alternative to dams and levees.
In 1992, he proposed and partnered with the United Nations on a global "Future We Want" campaign that gathered grass-roots ideas on sustainable development for Rio+20, the UN's 2012 international conference on that topic in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he has lectured internationally on clean energy, climate action, and envisioning positive futures.
Mr. Becker is now executive director of the Presidential Climate Action Project, which has worked with American thought leaders since 2007 to develop climate and energy policy options for Presidents of the United States and the U.S. Congress.
He contributes frequently to The Hill, an online news service in Washington, D.C., and Meer, an international magazine published online in six languages for its millions of readers.
Mr. Becker is a senior associate at Natural Capitalism Solutions and an advisor to the Environment and Energy Study Institute. His books include "The 100-Day Action Plan to Save the Planet," and "The Creeks Will Rise: People Co-Existing with Floods." He is a co-editor and contributor to "Democracy Unchained," a collection of more than 30 essays on how to save Democracy in America, and a contributor to "Democracy in a Hotter Time," scheduled for publication in the fall of 2023.
He attributes his success to the insights he gained and friends he made while working with distinguished experts and political leaders in the United States and Europe. Now in his sixth decade in journalism, he continues writing from his home near Madison, Wisconsin.
