Leveraging more than a decade of excellence while working as a Health Actuary, Mr. Shah has earned distinction as a Principal with Mercer. He has focused his efforts on helping employers strategize, establish and implement health and welfare programs that align with their total rewards objectives and guiding principles. Apart from working as a Lead Actuary overseeing financial work for his clients, he works as a Tech 'Horizontal' Surveys Lead and Tech Disruptor. In this capacity, he also serves as the primary owner of multiple healthcare cost and total rewards surveys within the high-tech (and broader tech) industry and leads (strategic) conversations with Mercer's clients and prospects globally. He also serves as the Actuarial / Financial on-campus recruitment lead for Mercer's West Zone which comprises more than seven offices. Among his accomplishments, Mr. Shah is proud to have earned first place in the 2019 Mercer Excel Competition, receiving an Excel Wizard award.
Mr. Shah has had actuarial internships at M/s. K. A. Pandit Consultants & Actuaries, Buck, and Deloitte. During college, he also served as a math tutor for NCAA athletes for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was the President of the Actuarial Science Club. After graduation, he worked at WTW, Milliman, and Deloitte before joining Mercer in 2018.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Mr. Shah lends his expertise to the Society of Actuaries by supporting the organization's Actuary of the Future section. Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, he also serves as an advisory board member for St. Dunstan Catholic School.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Shah earned a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and his wings by receiving his Private Pilot License from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2007. Well-qualified in his field, he holds a life and health insurance license from the California Department of Insurance.
Within the coming years, Mr. Shah intends to participate in more external events at Mercer and continue to grow in his career. Having come from a family that highly values education, with his mother being the backbone who taught him to be skilled at math and father serving as a dean/principal and statistics professor for a college in India, he credits much of his professional success to the support he received from his parents. When Parshva came to study Actuarial Science in the USA, India did not have any bachelor's or master's degree programs for actuarial science. His parents took it upon themselves to create such programs, under the banner of DSACTED, so that aspiring actuaries would not have to leave India if they wanted to pursue a career in actuarial science.
