Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in operating nuclear reactors across the United States and Canada, and with many years of nuclear station operations and fleet emergency response leadership experience, Mr. Shiever has earned distinction as a performance betterment and risk mitigation consultant with his company, ARShiever Inc. Since 2021, he has focused his efforts on working on nuclear power plants and power grids, providing risk awareness and management services for his clients. He informs his clients on the sources of their issues and advises them on appropriate steps for performance improvement. He also provided a wealth of leadership following the Fukushima event and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to starting his private career, Mr. Shiever served honorably in the nuclear submarine service of the United States Navy from 1977 until receiving an honorable service discharge in 1983. Following his military service, he began his career working with Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station until becoming a nuclear training division director for Ontario Power Generation in Canada in 2008. Following this time, he served as the corporate director of operations and maintenance for Ontario Power Generation in 2010 and was promoted to the vice president of learning and development in 2012. He was further promoted to the ice president of nuclear fleet operations, maintenance and radiation safety in 2018, taking a role as the vice president of the Darlington Nuclear for the Future within Ontario Power Generation in 2019.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Shiever is proud to have received an Outstanding Business Leadership Team Performance Award from the Canadian Nuclear Society/Canadian Nuclear Association in 2011 and an OPG Annual CEO Performance Excellence Award for the 2011 Calendar Year for leading and facilitating the OPG Nuclear Fleet Response to the March 2011 Fukushima Event. He also accepted the Outstanding Performance In Nuclear Radiation Safety from the Canadian Nuclear Association/Canadian Nuclear Society on behalf of the OPG Nuclear Fleet in 2019.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Shiever earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in business operations leadership from Lesley University in 1986. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified nuclear fleet emergency response director. Within the coming years, Mr. Shiever intends to continue strengthening the power grid of the United States while helping it navigate the transition from fossil fuels to greener energy sources.
