Col. Sprouse led a long and successful career in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years between 1972 and 2002. Upon his retirement, he joined PE Systems Inc. in Dayton, Ohio. He spent the next 13 years in varied roles, including as a senior logistics manager and the vice president of the services group. Col. Sprouse also served as a functional contract team lead providing advisory and assistance services to the Aeronautical Systems Center at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.
Throughout his military career, Col. Sprouse served in critical roles responsible for nationally significant and high visibility intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions and critical command and control support for the Strategic Air Command and the National Airborne Operations Center. His entire career in the U.S. Air Force was notably in aircraft maintenance and logistics, having worked on 33 types of aircraft and completing 13 assignments. Col. Sprouse also served as a two-time squadron commander, deputy commander for maintenance, and two-time deputy logistics group commander. Upon his retirement, he was the chief of the inspection and assessments division at the Air Force Materiel Command and was involved in compliance inspections. Col. Sprouse was previously in charge of logistics support for all special mission aircraft for HQ Air Combat Command and was deployed twice to support Desert Fox and Desert Thunder Operations.
Heavily involved in his church, Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish in Centerville, Ohio, Col. Sprouse volunteered for the parish financial council for more than five years and served in various advisory capacities for over 20 years. He also served in several lay minister roles for the parish. Moreover, he spearheaded numerous fundraising events, through which he helped raise more than $100,000 to improve the church building. Col. Sprouse is also an honorary life member who served in several roles with the Knights of Columbus Fraternal Organization and is a life member of the American Legion.
Col. Sprouse joined the U.S. Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in 1968 at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and transitioned to the U.S. Air Force ROTC in 1970 with a two-year Air Force scholarship. He subsequently completed a four-year service commitment. Col. Sprouse received a Bachelor of Education in agricultural education from SDSU in 1972 and a Master of Science in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1980. He also completed additional coursework in strategic logistics management, environmental risk communications, and other relative areas and received certifications in acquisition management and program management.
Among Col. Sprouse's professional memberships include being a life member in the Military Officers Association of America, the Air and Space Forces Association, and the Air Force Logistics Officer Association.
Col. Sprouse received a Leadership Award from PE Systems Inc. in 2006. He was also decorated with several medals including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with six devices, Air Force Commendation Medal with two devices and the Air Force Achievement Medal. Furthermore, in 2005, Col. Sprouse was honored as a key member and contributor to the Counter Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives focus team for the first-ever integrated summit hosted by the Air Force Materiel Command and Air Force Space Command.
