In her current role, she is responsible for coordinating how the NYC Children's Services and its partners leverage Medicaid funded resources to improve health outcomes for children and families and minimize the need for child welfare intervention, while optimizing health and wellness outcomes. She is also responsible for providing strategic and systems guidance regarding Medicaid services and the Medicaid Managed Care plan. Alongside her work in Medicaid Services, Ms. Skeete has served as a lecturer with New York University since 2022 and owns a mental health practice in New York.
Prior to joining the NYC Administration for Children's Services, Ms. Skeete worked as the Director of children's BH services for Healthfirst, and United Health Care. She also worked as a HARP care manager for Fidelis Care. Prior to her work in the managed care arena, Ms. Skeete spent 17 years working for New York State Office of Mental Health. Over those years she functioned in the capacities of therapist, director of a Behavioral health clinic and a community residence. She also served as a treatment team leader at two inpatient behavioral health hospitals. During the early stages of her career, she gained valuable expertise in the child welfare field with St. Joseph Family Services and developmental disabilities experience with YAI. An expert in her field, Ms. Skeete holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Stony Brook University and a master's degree in social work from New York University.
While her career has been filled with standout moments, Ms. Skeete takes the most pride in working for the Office of Mental Health, where she was able to support marginalized families and assumed an active role in the restructuring of behavioral health services in New York City. The cornerstone of her success lay in her support system, especially her son, Kevin who plays a key role in keeping her connected to current social issues. She continues to be very connected to her friends and family in her homeland, Barbados. Within the coming years, Ms. Skeete intends to work diligently at levelling the playing field in terms of access to health care and destigmatizing seeking mental health care.
