After more than two decades in social work and child welfare, Ms. Frankel retired and began dedicating all her free time to civic and charitable interests. Presently, she is active by serving as the president and on the Lakewood Center for the Arts board of directors in Lake Oswego, Oregon. A local theater that strives to inspire and nurture a love for theater and the arts, the Center also offers monthly shows, auditions, and classes held by local artists.
Having volunteered at the Lakewood Center for the Arts for more than 15 years, Ms. Frankel previously served as the treasurer, board director, and member of its executive board. Moreover, she is a former member and past president of Lakewood Center Associates, a group of volunteers who serve as the auxiliary arm of the Center.
Among Ms. Frankel's other civil interests, she is active as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She previously served as the president of the American Women's Association of Singapore and the American Women's Association of Jakarta, and is on the board and served as the recording secretary for PEO, was a member of the Overseas Wives Association of Surabaya, and among other interests, has volunteered her time at several orphanages in Singapore and several Singapore American Schools.
A well-written author, Ms. Frankel contributed to the Singapore American Newspaper and the American Women's Association Bamboo Telegraph between 1986 and 1989. She also contributed to the 2002 book, "How to Live with Other People's Children," by authors June and William Noble.
During her more than 20 years of success in social work, Ms. Frankel sought to impact other people's lives as a child welfare worker, psychiatric case worker, and juvenile court counselor supervisor for the state. She also garnered experience as a marriage and family counselor for the Court of Domestic Relations in Multnomah County, Oregon, in various roles with the Bureau of Labor and Industries in Oregon, and as an employee of Sampoerna Executive Research Company, through which she was involved in contributing standard operating procedures. Additionally, Ms. Frankel maintained a retail and wholesale furniture import/export business in Indonesia as the company's owner from 1991 to 2000.
Ms. Frankel graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in sociology and a minor in psychology in 1962. She subsequently studied at Portland State University, earning a Master of Science in social work in 1970. Ms. Frankel also received credentials as a licensed social worker.
Remaining aligned with ongoing changes in her industry, Ms. Frankel was a member of such organizations as the Academy of Certified Social Workers and as a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Ms. Frankel received a 2017 Betty Kingsbury Heritage Award for Exemplary Service to the Theater. She also received a Fortuna Award as an Outstanding Business Partner for the Arts from the Arts Council of Lake Oswego in 2020.
