During an earlier stage of his career, Dr. Breuer was a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences from 2014 to 2020. He also successfully led the pediatric critical care medicine fellowship in pediatrics at the University at Buffalo from 2018 to 2021. During his college years, Dr. Breuer also garnered experience as a teaching assistant at the State University of New York Stoney Brook School of Medicine, the Center for Development Disabilities, and Cornell University between 2001 and 2005.
Among his most notable accomplishments in the field, Dr. Breuer has been recognized for developing an award-winning project at Duke Children's Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. This project streamlined and standardized communications for postoperative admissions into its pediatric intensive care unit, resulting in sustainable improvements in various areas.
As a result of Dr. Breuer's research in the medical field, he has contributed more than 20 peer-reviewed articles to various medical journals. He has also contributed books and book chapters, including "Electrolyte Derangements" and "Maintenance Fluids" in 2018 via McGraw-Hill.
Dr. Breuer earned a Bachelor of Science in human biology, health, and society, with honors, from Cornell University in 2003 and a Doctor of Medicine from Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2008. He was notably inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars in 2002. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship in pediatrics from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Mattel Children's Hospital, in 2009, a residency in pediatrics from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine/UCLA Medical Center from 2008 to 2011, and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine from the Duke Children's Hospital and Health Center in 2014. Dr. Breuer maintains a medical license in California and New York, is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical medicine through the American Board of Pediatrics, received certification in patient safety and quality improvement through Duke University Medical Center, in health care quality improvement through Duke University Medical Center, and certification as a medical educator through the Royal College of Physicians.
To remain aware of developments in his field, Dr. Breuer is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Pediatric Academic Societies. As a testament to his integrity, he has been voted by his peers as a Top Doctor in Western New York by Buffalo Spree Magazine every year since 2020.
