Dr. Amballur "Joe" David John decided to enter the field of academic medicine, not only to teach others the intricacies of health care, but to also provide care for ill patients. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Harvard University in 1982, he went on to receive an MD from the New York Medical College in 1990. Thereafter, he completed a residency in internal medicine at Framingham Union Hospital in 1994, as well as an additional residency in anesthesia and critical care at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in 2000. The following year, he completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital.
