During an earlier stage of her career, Ms. Giscard d'Estaing worked in publishing, a field that she was very passionate about. Hired by the French publishing house Fayard, a Paris-based company that was founded in 1857 and controlled by Hachette, she subsequently formed her own publishing company, Compagnie12, which focused on nonfiction and illustrated books. During her distinguished tenure in the industry, which spanned more than 20 years, Ms. Giscard d'Estaing released an annual publication of "The World Book of Inventions" both abroad and in the U.S. in eight different languages every year between 1984 and 2000. The book notably covered contemporary inventors. She also published a three-volume memoir for her father, "Power and Life." Among other accomplishments, Ms. Giscard d'Estaing met and introduced numerous renowned authors to the French public, including American novelist and screenwriter Nicholas Sparks. Prior to her prominent publishing career, she was in public service for the Minister for Culture in Paris.
Highly educated, Ms. Giscard d'Estaing received a master's degree in political science and government from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris in 1974. She speaks fluent French and English.
