Prior to her current position with South Florida State College, Ms. Fernandez began her career working at the University of Miami's Office of Student Employment as an undergraduate student and staff member, as Family Intercept Specialist at Youth Villages, then with Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami for five years. She continued her career with Florida International University for four years. Over the course of her stellar career, she authored and published an article on work-life harmony and has received various awards for being an excellent employee, including being honored as Employee of the Month.
Before embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Fernandez earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from the University of Miami in 2005. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Science in Education in counseling, specializing in family marriage therapy and earning a bilingual and bicultural certification from the same institution in 2010.
A lifelong learner committed to improving her professional skills, Ms. Fernandez intends to complete a Doctor of Education program, enabling her to establish her own counseling and consulting firm. She is grateful to her parents for laying the foundation for her success, immigrating to the United States in the 1980s dur to political turmoil in their country of origin and providing their family with a better life.
