Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in leadership development, business management and organizational management, Dr. Brown has earned distinction as an independent research and author. His most recent book, "Everyone Needs a Lyft: My Thirty-Day Odyssey as a Lyft Driver" published by BookBaby in 2022, focuses on the changes in work-life balance as it relates to the emerging "gig economy" and how this impacts organizational adaptations.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Brown began his career as a professor and senior consultant for the corporate learning center of MacEwan University in 2007, where he taught upper-level courses for the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program. Following this time, he served as an assistant professor of organizational behavior for Thompson Rivers University in Canada in 2010, creating novel organizational behavior major courses and supervising various research projects. He subsequently served as a Master of Business Administration faculty affiliate for the University of Michigan William Davidson Institute of the Ross School of Business, serving as the lead instructor for the e Goldman Sachs 10000 Women Entrepreneurship Program based in Rwanda during a six-month modified program. He was then promoted to an associate faculty member for executive education at the Ross School of Business in 2014.
Dr. Brown continued his career as an assistant professor for Adrian College in 2017, teaching courses on strategic management and organizational change. He then functioned as a visiting professor of educational leadership for the Future Leader Academy in 2020, focusing on directing the student leadership development program for a year.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Brown earned Bachelor of Science in outdoor recreation management and philosophy with a minor in environmental science in 1992 and a Master of Arts in Education in college administration in 1994, both from Northern Michigan University. Following these achievements, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in organizational behavior and education from the University of Michigan in 2005, earning a Horace Rackham Dissertation Fellowship Award for his dissertation on "Social construction of high-velocity learning communities: a two-year study of adaptive organizing, structuration semiotics (rituals/rules/routines), and sensemaking practices." Within the coming years, Dr. Brown intends to write a larger work stemming from his dissertation. As he is always receptive to learning, he highly values input from his colleagues and is open to new opportunities as they arise.
