As a lawyer and investment banker he is an innovator in transaction structures and negotiation strategies. He identifies emerging trends in technology and translates this research into transactions that accelerate the growth and development of emerging companies. He assists entrepreneurs in becoming more successful in their own lives and in building their companies. As a sell-side specialist, he focuses on the technology sector and has engaged in formative transactions in the middle market, such as the sale of Ghost to Symantec, Caligari to Microsoft, and Instantiations to Google.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Burgess began his career as an analyst with Morgan Stanley's M&A group in 1989. He subsequently functioned as the director of on-line business development for Activision in 1994, helping them develop monetization models for the first generation of internet-based multiplayer games. Following this time, he served as President of Corum Group Ltd. from 1996 until 2015.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Burgess has managed transactions with numerous renowned clients internationally, including Microsoft, Google, Intel and Symantec. He has frequently had his work featured on CNBC, Power Lunch and Power Pitch and has been a frequent speaker at international national conferences, including the World Financial Symposiums and the RSA Security conference.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Burgess earned a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese literature from Yale University in 1989. Following this achievement, he attained a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1996. Well-qualified in his field, he was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1998.
Within the coming years, Mr. Burgess intends to continue rising as a leader in organizing business transactions that help make the artificial intelligence revolution productive and positive, rather than destructive. Also dedicated to civil advocacy, he and his wife founded the Lopez Strings Workshop for promising young musicians and support the Burgess-Haig memorial scholarship to support students at the Lakeside School.
