Drawing on over 25 years of expertise, Mr. Crane specializes in dog training and certification for military and law enforcement personnel. Since 2016, he has found much success as the owner and instructor at The K9 Commander. In this capacity, he is responsible for certifying military and law enforcement canines for patrolling and narcotics detection, and training civilian dogs and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) dogs as service animals. In addition to his main vocation, Mr. Crane serves as a master trainer at the American Working Dog Association as of 2021.
Mr. Crane initially began his career working as a master police officer, and a K-9 handler and instructor at the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police from 1994 until 2018. During this time, he also served in the United States Air Force Reserve between 2004 and 2018. Following this post, Mr. Crane contributed to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as a police lieutenant from 2018 to 2019, while concurrently serving as a superintendent at the Pennsylvania Air National Guard from 2018 until 2021.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Crane pursued an education at the Mountain State University, where he earned a Master of Science in criminal justice and corrections in 2007. As a commitment to his field, he is e-collar certified via Strategic Law Enforcement Training. Additionally, he has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the North American Police Working Dog Association and The American Legion. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Crane contributes to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Mr. Crane has received 21 military medals and citations and has been awarded as the Ceremonial Guardsman of the Year by the United States Air Force in 2010. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud to be serving as a master trainer and to be certifying PTSD dogs for combat veterans and law enforcement personnel. Reflecting on his career, he attributes much of his success to his Christian faith and to the support of his family, especially his wife, who has always encouraged him in all his endeavors.
