Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Hegde earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Kasturba Medical College and Hospital. Subsequently, she expanded upon her professional knowledge, completing a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology through Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and certifications in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease through the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Hegde co-chairs the Research Initiative to Sponsor and Empower Women in Medicine and Science.
Driven to stay abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Hegde aligns herself with several organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiovascular Computer Tomography, the American Heart Association, and the Society of Cardiovascular MRI, just to name a few. Similarly, she has been invited to speak for the Midwest ACC Group. She has guided medical students, residents and fellows through research and conference presentations. Several of her mentees have presented abstracts and research presentations at various regional and national-level conferences.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Hegde takes the most pride in establishing cardiac amyloid and cardio-oncology units in the University's Hospital and teaching fellows and residents. The cornerstone of her success lay in her patience and hard work. Looking toward the future, she intends to advance her research on cardiac amyloidosis and cardio-oncology by applying for additional research grants. Ultimately, Dr. Hegde intends to motivate younger generations to provide more patient-centered care while encouraging more women to pursue a career in medicine.
