Leveraging more than two decades of excellence to her credit as a certified clinical sleep health educator, Ms. Cochran has earned distinction as a certified clinical sleep health educator for Blue Ridge Pulmonary Medicine. Since 2015, she has focused her efforts on conducting home sleep studies and providing sleep equipment education to patients. She assists the doctor to screen patients for sleep apnea and educates them on any health risks involved when it goes untreated, such as heart attack, cardiac issues, hypertension or diabetes. Additionally, she has worked with Dr. Ahmad Ibrahimbacha, the medical director of the sleep center, since 2006 and is a valued member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Cochran began her career working on adult sleep studies at a laboratory in Boaz, Alabama and subsequently lent her expertise to the East Tennessee Children's Hospital Sleep Center from 2001 to 2005. Following this time, she served as a clinical coordinator for a sleep laboratory that was recognized as Best of the Best by Respiratory Care Magazine in 2014. She is proud to have had the opportunity to help many students pass their boards through online instructing and mentorship and to have assisted three laboratories to obtain accreditation in this field.
Well-qualified in her field, Ms. Cochran completed nursing coursework and is a licensed clinical sleep health educator with the State of Tennessee. She is also a certified polysomnographic technologist, registered polysomnographic technologist, registered sleep technologist and certified clinical sleep health educator, the 14th person worldwide to have obtained the certification. Within the coming years, Ms. Cochran intends to remain with Blue Ridge Pulmonary Medicine until she eventually retires. She also plans to resume teaching students online and in person, mentoring the next generation of sleep health professionals.
