Since obtaining the role in 2021, he has streamlined processes, revised college governing documents, and negotiated an almost six-figure credit and refund to the University. Prior to obtaining his current role, Mr. Wiig reduced procurement costs as an Agency Attorney of Corporate Affairs for the New York City Housing Authority.
Mr. Wiig also gained valuable expertise in law as a senior attorney for Municipal Credit Union, through which he lowered annual spending by 40 percent by identifying duplicate vendor services and consolidating accounts. Over the years, he has also worked as an associate specializing in commercial litigation for Mintz & Gold LLP, and as an adjunct professor of law at St. John's University, where he created the first of its kind course on litigation in New York courts. He began his legal career as a Court Attorney with New York State Courts' Commercial Division, the specialized business court of New York state.
Mr. Wiig also created and hosts "Amicus Curiae: Candidly Speaking", a series sponsored by the New York County Lawyers' Association, where he elicits entertaining personal stories and insightful lessons from high-profile guests.
Alongside his work, Mr. Wiig contributes to his community as a member of the board of directors at Musica Sacra of New York, Inc. and as a Trustee of the Riot Relief Fund.
A certified commercial arbitrator and mediator, Mr. Wiig holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from St. John's University, an MBA from Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business, and a JD from Brooklyn Law School. Over the years, he has expanded upon his professional knowledge, becoming a certified privacy professional through the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Driven to contribute to the legal profession, Mr. Wiig has served as Chair of the New York State Bar Association Commercial & Federal Litigation Section; Chair of the New York City Bar Association In-House Counsel Committee and Co-Chair of the New York County Lawyer's Association Young Lawyers' Section, among other leadership roles. Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, he has authored a number of publications, including "Corporate Dating Policies: Balancing Employee Bliss with Employer Interests," "The Art of the In-House Litigator," "How Bar Association Membership Can Help Law Students Ignite Their Professional Passion," and "In-House Attorneys Can and Should Collect Attorneys' Fees" and taught a number of continuing legal education courses for other lawyers. In light of his professional achievements, Mr. Wiig won the Kobak Prize and the Young Lawyers' Section Appreciation Award from the New York County Lawyers' Association and was elected a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation.
