For more than 25 years, Mr. Bynum has served as the co-owner and executive director of ByDam Multimedia LLC (formerly ByDam Video Productions) with his wife, Marie. As an independent filmmaker, he is passionate about storytelling. In 2020, Mr. Bynum released his award-winning documentary film "From a Place of Love: My Adoption Journey" as the writer, director, and producer. Available for streaming on Tubi, Vudu, iTunes, and YouTube, the film takes audiences on his fascinating journey to discover his biological family at age 60.
Mr. Bynum is presently writing another documentary about a family member who had gone through extensive turmoil. Looking toward the future, he aims to become more involved in projects that have meaning for him and relevance to the general public.
Bydam Multimedia serves as the parent company of Star107fm.com, a radio station that has been on the air for over a decade. On air seven days per week, Mr. Bynum station hosts two talk shows on Saturdays, "The Process with Mark Smith" and "Black Sun Productions Presents," a 45-minute morning show on Sundays featuring a local pastor from Ohio, and a Sunday evening jazz show with his wife. Mr. Bynum oversees all aspects of the radio station and works closely with his program director in Los Angeles. Having recently relocated to Florida during the summer of 2022, he is re-establishing a network in his new community and generating more opportunities.
Mr. Bynum's former years have included two decades with the Department of Youth Services and as a correctional officer for the U.S. Department of Corrections in Ohio. He also coached high school football from 2000 and 2020 at Reynoldsburg High School. As a coach, Mr. Bynum drew much satisfaction from transforming the lives of so many young men. He particularly enjoyed guiding troubled individuals and watching them flourish as they grew older.
Mr. Bynum had the opportunity to work with several charities that focus on the needs of veterans throughout the community. An honor to give back, he notably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1983 as a multichannel communications equipment operator. Mr. Bynum also volunteered his time with local sports clinics and youth organizations.
Mr. Bynum completed three years of college coursework at Ohio Dominican University, focusing on creative writing. He remains a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
In honor of his professional and personal achievements, Mr. Bynum received the Best Homegrown Film Award at the Columbus Black International Film Festival, Best Documentary by Veterans Affairs, and Third Place at the Columbus Film Festival. He also received eight awards for his documentary "From a Place of Love: My Adoption Journey." Additionally, Mr. Bynum was inducted into the United States Flag and Touch Football League Hall of Fame in 2000.
