Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in all technical aspects of the seafood industry, Mr. Kimball has earned distinction as a senior executive consultant with his own company, Allen K. Kimball Consulting LLC. Since 2022, he has focused his efforts on providing training and executive mentoring for the company. Additionally, he was appointed to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute by Mike Dunleavy, the governor of Alaska, in 2022 and elected to Chairman of that board. The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to marketing Alaska seafood globally. As the chairman, he manages the board of directors and supports the executive director and his team. Added to these roles, he has been a board member of a number of international joint ventures during his career as well as a board member of Offshore Systems Incorporated from 1999-2013, and an executive board member of the Global Seafood Alliance and the Certified Seafood Collaborative since 2021.
Prior to his current leadership role, Mr. Kimball began his career as a fishery scientist in various technical positions at the National Marine Fisheries Service in 1982 and held senior operations roles at the Arctic Alaska Fisheries Corporation, where he developed the technical production of groundfish operations. Following this period, he served as the general manager of Alaska operations and sales for Tyson Foods. He joined Trident Seafoods Corporation in 1994 taking on the role as the vice president of catcher processors and Pacific Whiting operations with Trident Seafoods in 1999. He continued his career there as the senior executive vice president of global operations and sales until retiring in 2022, although continuing his professional relationship as a consultant for the company to the present.
Integral to one of the world's largest vertically integrated seafood supply chains, Mr. Kimball is proud to have been a key part of fish processing operations in Japan, China, Ecuador, Vietnam, Thailand, the Netherlands, and Germany for the latter of which he was instrumental in acquiring and developing a successful vertically integrated plan from seafood to the German market throughout Europe. During his tenure at Trident Seafoods, he was responsible for approximately $1 billion in the sales, procurement, and allocations of seafood around the group. During his career he was part of a small team instrumental in bringing a fish auction system for caviar to the United States. This remains the primary method by which prices are set for wild Alaska Pollock caviar. Over the course of his career, he also heavily supported the Alaska seafood industry's collaborative effort to donate seafood that was not used commercially to food banks.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Kimball earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology with fisheries management emphasis from Brigham Young University in 1984 and collaborated marine sciences education at the University of Washington Friday Harbor laboratories. Well-qualified in his profession, he is a certified surimi seafood expert being part of the development of the first US surimi production. In addition, he was certified through the Oregon State University's surimi school. He has also been part of the Groundfish Forum as one of global seafood industry leaders.
He was inspired to join the industry by his father, who was involved in renewable resource management and conservation. He spent his childhood growing a love of marine environments and meeting modem naturalists, including his neighbor, Bill Aaron, a former senior executive at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington, DC.
Within the coming years, Mr. Kimball intends to continue his work with the Global Seafood Alliance, aiming to see more certified fisheries and bring more responsibly produced seafood through the entire supply chain. He plans to participate in boards where he can utilize his background and experience to help organizations thrive, making a positive difference in the global fishery industry.
