Dr. Carriker presently acts as a trustee with the National Arts Program Foundation and founder of the strategic advisory practice Global Advisors LLC. As an educator and writer, he continues to conduct research regarding how the intersection of globalization, the rise of the internet, and rapidly advancing technologies such as AI are all disrupting the nature of the workplace, accelerating the financial gap between the "haves" and "have-nots". In an effort to raise public awareness he has published extensively on career issues, including two books "Surviving America's Financial Abyss – Be the Entrepreneur of Your Own Life" and "Have a Good Job? – Why You Will Need a Career!". Dr. Carriker has received several awards in recognition of his publishing efforts.
As a physicist, Dr. Carriker earned a Bachelor of Science from Washington State University in 1960, a Master of Science from Trinity College in 1963, and a PhD from the University of Connecticut in 1968. In his early career as a scientist Dr. Carriker focused on research and publishing scientific findings, eventually attaining the management of 120 scientists at United Technologies Research Laboratories.
Mid-career, Dr, Carriker pivoted from focusing solely on technology to the intersection of business and technology. In this pivot, he earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1976. Then joining Teleflex, Inc., he grew a subsidiary from $1.7 million to $650 million in revenue, transforming it to a global organization. Subsequently promoted to vice chairman, Dr, Carriker helped grow Teleflex to a $2.2 billion global enterprise. Retiring from Teleflex, Carriker joined Indivers BV, a private venture capital firm in the Netherlands, as chief executive officer and chairman of the board.
Due to his vast breadth of experience, Dr. Carriker has served as a board member for more than 20 organizations in seven countries and in an advisory capacity to numerous businesses, three business schools and as an Honorary Advisor to the Aerospace Industries Association Board of Governors.
Retiring from industry, Dr. Carriker became a core team member in the founding of Drexel University's Charles D Close School of Entrepreneurship as a teaching professor and director of global programs. He was also a senior executive in residence in Drexel's School of Biomedical Engineering.
