Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in criminal law, Mr. Kohl has earned distinction as an attorney with his own private practice. Since 2009, he has focused his efforts on handling emergency cases in juvenile court and adult domestic violence court, representing clients who are in dire need of his help. Additionally, he is a valued member of the Leavenworth County Bar Association, the National District Attorneys Association and the National Association of Government Employees, among other professional organizations in the field.
Prior to establishing his present firm, Mr. Kohl began working in private practice in 1977 until being appointed an assistant and elected deputy county attorney for Leavenworth County, Kansas in 1979. In this role, he represented the federal employees' union for Leavenworth County before the National Labor Relations Board in cases they had between 1979 and 1994. He also served as an attorney and chief prosecutor for the same county from 1984 until 2009, at which point he became a representative for indigent defendants with the Leavenworth County Juvenile Court until 2022. During this time, he also served as a municipal court judge in 2018 for three years and lent his expertise to the Community Corrections Advisory Board from 1984 until 2021. Among his professional accomplishments, he was honored with an award for Exemplary Service to the Court System by Judge Joan Lowdon of the Leavenworth County District Court in 2022.
To prepare for his law career, Mr. Kohl earned a Bachelor of Arts in personnel management and political science from the University of Kansas in 1974. Following this achievement, he attained a Juris Doctor from the same institution in 1977 and was admitted to the Kansas Bar Association that year. Through his affiliation with the bar association, he also contributed to the document "Strategies Combating Domestic Violence."
Having spent his career in dedicated service to improving various organizations, Mr. Kohl intends to retire in the near future. He is proud of the legacy he has built, handling numerous cases over the course of his career, including over 100 jury trials, many violent crimes cases and 20 murder trials. He will retire with a legacy of willingness to engage with cases and situations that many other professionals would be unable to handle.
