Mr. Hensley is a United States Air Force veteran and executive for the American Legion, where he has dedicated more than 25 years of his career. He began his career as an active duty member of the United States Military in 1967 and served proudly until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement, Mr. Hensley found success in the industry, and in 1991 he accepted a position as a supply coordinator for Hanesbrands, a role that developed into an 18-year career with the company.
In 2009, Mr. Hensley stepped down from his position with Hanesbrands to focus on his passion for supporting other veterans as a leader in the American Legion. That year, he became 1st District Commander for the Tennessee Department of the American Legion, and in 2010 he was named East Tennessee Vice Commander. Mr. Hensley stood out for his commitment to service and embodiment of the organization's values, and he continued to rise quickly through its leadership ranks. Between 2011 and 2013, he was chair of the Department of Public Relations for the American Legion, and in 2013, he became chair of its Department of Membership. Mr. Hensley was department commander of the American Legion Department of Tennessee for the 2014-2015 term, with responsibilities including outreach and policy advocacy efforts for the region.
Mr. Hensley's outstanding work for the Tennessee Department of the American Legion led to his selection for the group's National Legislative Commission in 2016. For the next four years, he expanded on his prior policy education and legislative influence work at the regional level to act on behalf of all members of the national body. Since 2021, Mr. Hensley has lent his extensive experience to the organization as a member of the American Legion's National Executive Committee.
Throughout his career, he has been honored for his professional and civic excellence, including an early Rising Star Award from the American Legion. He is active in supporting veterans in the community as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a volunteer for the Johnson County Senior Center. Mr. Hensley credits his success to team cohesion and the support of his many mentors and considers it an honor to have dedicated his career to serving others.
