A leader in the nonprofit sector since 2006, Ms. Larson spent two years as the vice president of human resources for Brazos Higher Education Corporation before being named the executive director at Brazos Education Foundation. In her present role, she has been instrumental in the organization's growth since its inception in 2009, working alongside a team of dedicated individuals that helped see it to fruition.
Headquartered in Waco, Texas, the Brazos Education Foundation focuses on making higher education more affordable to high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students residing in Texas through scholarships and grants. Brazos Higher Education Service Corporation was previously launched as a nonprofit to provide low-interest school loans to Texas residents.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Larson aims to continue expanding the Brazos Education Foundation to assist as many students as possible. Aside from her active role as the executive director, she is involved in the cattle and land management industry.
During an earlier stage of her career, Ms. Larson was employed by the University of Houston-Downtown as an executive assistant to the president between 1993 and 1999. She also worked as a psychotherapist at Spring Shadows Glen Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital in Houston, from 1987 to 1993. Ms. Larson provided individual, group, and family therapy to adolescents and their families in crisis as an affiliate of the Adolescent Family Crisis Unit.
Civically engaged, Ms. Larson has served as a corporate board president of the Festival on the Brazos, as a founding member of the National Charity League of Waco, and as a member and past president of the Junior League of Waco. She is also a past board member of the McLennan Community College Foundation.
Ms. Larson graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Education in secondary education in 1985 and a Master of Education in educational psychology in 1987. She also received credentials as a certified teacher in secondary education in 1985 and as a licensed professional counselor in 1987.
Recognizing her leadership, Ms. Larson was named Employee of the Year by Spring Shadows Glen Hospital for her contributions to the mental health industry.
