Dr. Andreae is renowned as an award-winning educator, researcher, health advocate, and humanitarian who has spent many years supporting the Alzheimer's Society of Toronto as the organization's inaugural executive director and later chair of their Patron's Council. Among many awards from the Society are a Lifetime Achievement Award and another presented Princess Jasmine Kahn, chair of the International Society. Besides advocating and bringing about awareness about traumatic brain injuries he is chair of Brain Injuries Canada and has a neuroscience laboratory named after him at the prestigious Weizmann Institute of Science, one of the top research institutes in the world.
He is also a leading advocate for robotic surgery and spearheaded the purchase of the DaVinci Robot at the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto. He co-sponsored the first in Canada Robotic Training Academy at the Michener Institute of Education for surgeons and allied health professionals. Additional support has been given to Dr. Timo Krings world expert in vascular surgery for stroke and dementia. He has contributed to the ground-breaking work of Dr. Allan Slomovic at the Donald K. Johnston at the Eye Institute at the Western Hospital for Corneal Stem Cell Research and Surgery. Dr. Andreae was a co-founder of the National Eating Disorder (NEDIC) at UHN.
As President of the Ontario Association of Social Workers he led a successful campaign for more than 10 years to secure statutory legislation recognizing social work as a profession.
Among other accomplishments, Dr. Andreae has been an award-winning university and college educator teaching 45 different subjects over an illustrious career. He spent several years teaching at Renison University College at the University of Waterloo as an adjunct associate professor and fellow and also at the University of Guelph-Humber.
As a long-standing believer in lifelong education, he has secured diplomas and certification is several fields including brain health, neuropsychophysiology, hormone health, health coaching, ADHD, epilepsy, gut/brain health and stress management and sleep medicine. Due to studying at the Benson Henry Mind Body Institute Dr. Andreae was granted membership in the Harvard Medical School post-graduate association. He is also a founding fellow of the Institute of Coaching affiliated with Mas. General Hospital and a fellow of the American Institute of Stress.
Dan is a highly sought after community advocate who supports educational initiatives in communities and with students. For several years he sponsored a lecture series at Sudbury Ontario Laurentian University featuring well-known speakers to address issues under the umbrella of Health Living Communities. He has been a sponsor of Mental Health Conferences at George Brown College in Toronto and also has sponsored a series of lectures at the Michener Institute of Education on future of professions. He also sponsors annual scholarships to students of The Humber Institute of Technology and Learning.
