JEFFERSON CITY, TN, June 30, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Blackburn Gerard, RN, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in nursing, Ms. Gerard has earned distinction as a registered nurse with MCCX. Prior to her current role, she began her career working in the ICU, coronary care unit, and step-down unit of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center for three years. Afterwards, she served as a trauma surgical nurse at UT Hospital and cared for a physicist with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), subsequently taking a role as a workers' compensation case manager for the CorVel Corporation for six years in Charleston, SC.
Ms. Gerard continued her career as a case manager in a children's residential program in Charleston, South Carolina. Additionally, she conducted evaluations for the state of South Carolina to determine if assisted living homes needed more certified nursing assistants to help with patient care. Following this period, she taught certified nursing assistant classes at Goodwill Industries for two years and collaborated with the school system until joining the Morgan County Correctional Complex, working there for five years. Among her professional accomplishments, she received an award from Kiwanis Club for conducting a seminar with them and received an award from Goodwill Industries for the expert instruction she provided.
Before starting her professional journey, Ms. Gerard graduated from the Fort Sanders School of Nursing with second honors in 1987, despite challenges from learning disabilities, including dyslexia and dysgraphia. She also has ADHD type 6 ("Amens Ring of Fire") which is very rare and does not respond to any ADHD medications, therefore distractibility is a real concern. She was also elected as judicial chair of her class at the Fort Sanders School of Nursing in recognition of her stellar talents. She is well-qualified in her field as a registered nurse and continues to complete Continuing Education Courses to stay well-informed on current nursing guidelines.
Drawing on strength from her late father, who supported her by ensuring she had tutors throughout her schooling, as well as her Christian faith, Ms. Gerard has continued to help patients and care for others despite being critically ill herself since 2017.
