Dr. VanBenthuysen is a respected and talented dentist recognized as the Dental Director at Embassy Dental in Nashville, TN where he was responsible for training new dentists and dental assistants, vetted new job applicants, and provided continuing education and training in dental technology. He was promoted to Chief Dental Officer when Embassy Dental was acquired by Marquee Dental Partners in 2015. In addition to managing the overall operations of the established dental practices, he supervised a team of four dental hygienists, three dental assistants, and two front desk personnel. Dr. VanBenthuysen is currently practicing at Family Smiles of Fleming Island in Florida where he resides with his wife, Donna, and their two children.

After completing his medical studies, he served his country in the U.S Army as a dentist from 1982 to 1987. Dr. VanBenthuysen subsequently entered private practice as the owner of Family Dental in Lakeland, Florida.
Dr. VanBenthuysen has played an integral role in the community by volunteering at his church's mobile dental clinic, serving needy patients. He also spent over a month in the Dominican Republic providing dental care to children at an orphanage.
Choosing to pursue the medical field, Dr. VanBenthuysen noted, was inspired by his mother, who was a registered nurse. Having initially considered a career as a physician, he eventually chose dentistry as he found it more appealing for various reasons. After high school, Dr. VanBenthuysen graduated from The Citadel in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He continued his education at the University of Florida, earning a Doctor of Medical Dentistry in 1982. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include credentials in Cerec Cad-Cam dentistry through Patterson Dental and Implant E-Z through the Dick Barnes Group. In 2023, Dr. VanBenthuysen completed a guided implant surgery course through White Cap Institute in Salt Lake City, UT demonstrating his passion for continuing education.
To further ensure his place at the forefront of his profession, Dr. VanBenthuysen is a member of the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. VanBenthuysen was awarded a fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry in August, 1997. He was also honored with a Leadership in Dentistry award from Marquee Dental Partners. For his time served in the military, Dr. VanBenthuysen was decorated with a Commendation Medal from the U.S. Army. He attributes his success to his hard work, continuous education, mentorship from several prominent colleagues, and family support.
