Since 2020, he has focused his efforts on working on various projects for growers. He is also the host of the "Plants Dig Soil" podcast, which focuses on providing advice on agronomy as well as giving book reviews, news related to regenerative agriculture and updates on the company. Also dedicated to civil advocacy, Mr. Gillespie lends his expertise as the treasurer for the Taber Equality Alliance Society, advocating for the LGBT+ community. He is a presenter with a local classroom agriculture program and for the Chinook Regional Foundation for Career Transitions. Added to these, he has been a mentor for Lethbridge College since 2019 and a judge for the Lethbridge Regional Science Fair since 2017.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Gillespie began his career as a laborer in the soybean program at the University of Guelph in Canada in 2003 and was a test track supervisor for MacDon Industries in 2006. Following this time, he served as an agronomist for Growers Supply Ltd. in 2007 until taking a similar role with S-Scan Farms Ltd. in 2012. He continued his career under self-employment as an independent agronomist with his own company, Scott C Gillespie Agronomy, from 2018 until 2020.
To prepare for his career in agronomy, Mr. Gillespie earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of Guelph in 2001. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Science in plant science from the University of Manitoba in 2006. Dedicated to continuing education, he created an online course to help farmers with cover crops, teaching them where to use the crops to remain profitable on their farms.
Within the coming years, Mr. Gillespie intends to continue building his consulting company by working with farmers, food companies, and government organizations to help expand regenerative agriculture. He also plans to publish a book on the subject, taking advantage of any future opportunities for disseminating information and educational materials.
