Previously, she was a professor at National Defense University and field of study chair for Operational Art and Campaign Planning for the Joint Advanced Warfighting School. She also served at the National Defense University as an associate and assistant professor. Additionally, she was an assistant professor with the U.S. Air Force Academy. During the early stages of her career, she dedicated herself to the U.S. military as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. Between 1992 and 2012, Dr. Bell served as an Open Skies Treaty mission commander for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, an executive and operations officer for the 204th Military Intelligence Battalion, and a troop commander for B Troop, 1-158th Aviation Regiment.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, she holds lifetime memberships with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Army Aviation Association of America. Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Bell has been featured as a female Blackhawk pilot through CNN and U.S. News & World Report.
An expert in her field, Dr. Bell holds a Bachelor of Arts in international business from New Mexico State University and a Master of Arts in international relations through St. Mary's University at San Antonio. Subsequently, she expanded upon her knowledge by earning a PhD in international studies from Old Dominion University and a teaching certificate through the Virginia Tidewater Consortium. In 2007, Dr. Bell also earned her airline transport pilot (ATP) certificate through the Federal Aviation Administration.
In recognition of her outstanding achievements, Dr. Bell earned three Defense Meritorious Service Medals and a Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award from the United States Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She is also the recipient of the Knowlton Award, which she earned by demonstrating excellence in intelligence support to the Department of Defense while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, moral character, and dedication to duty. She was also inducted to the Order of St. Michael for her significant and significant contributions to U.S. Army Aviation. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride as the first women to be promoted to full professor in the 76-year history of the Joint Forces Staff College. The cornerstone of her success lay in her ability to build and develop relationships. Within the coming years, Dr. Bell intends to advance in her career with service at the Dakota State University.
