Ms. Rathbone is an attorney with more than 35 years of legal experience and an in-depth knowledge of business management and finance. Her practice focuses on real estate law, business transactions, opportunity zones, and securities transactions, and her portfolio includes work on three major golf course development projects, a Nike-acquired project valued at more than $9 million, representation of approximately 150 Tenant in Common Owner groups in workouts with lenders and managers, the development of the first and largest Opportunity Fund in Oregon, and is presently working on a 1200 acre Qualified Opportunity Zone development to build a city within a city in Burns, Oregon. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Idaho in 1978 cum laude and earned her Juris Doctor from the Willamette University College of Law in 1988.
After seven years of success working in business management and development, Ms. Rathbone obtained her law degree and transitioned into law as an associate, and later partner of Davis Wright Tremaine in their Portland, Oregon office. Ms. Rathbone spent the next 20 years with the firm developing her reputation as an insightful business attorney with an eye for growth and an expert in negotiations. In 2010, she became a shareholder of Zupancic Rathbone PC, a Lake Oswego-based practice focused on real estate development and real estate securities transactions. In 2018, feeling the need to be in downtown Portland, Ms. Rathbone joined Dunn Carney LLP, where she became a partner in 2019. She leads the firm's opportunity zone practice and is a member of the real estate, business, and securities teams. Ms. Rathbone moved with her husband to Idaho in 2021 and practiced remotely along with becoming licensed to practice in Idaho. She there started developing an Idaho practice while continuing to serve her Oregon clients. In 2023, Ms. Rathbone became an Of Counsel to Dunn Carney so that she could also begin her new solo practice, Rathbone Law, LLC which serves as part time general counsel to several of her long time clients. Ms. Rathbone is also a real estate developer in Oregon and Idaho.
As a leader in her specialties, Ms. Rathbone is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network, a Certified Commercial Investment Member, and a former longtime member of the Counselors of Real Estate. In recognition of her career commitment to excellence, she has been named one of Opportunity Zone Magazine's Top 25 Lawyers in the Country and has been presented with awards including a 2013 National Entrepreneurial Spirit CREW Network Impact Award, a 2013 Portland Business Journal Women of Influence Orchid Award, a 2014 Daily Journal Commerce Women of Vision Award.
