Mr. Johnson is a business leader and former educator and public servant with more than 16 years of expertise in developing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion, community engagement and recruitment programs. Proud to be the first member of his family to complete postsecondary education, Mr. Johnson attended the University of Louisville, graduating in 2005. Throughout his career, he has emphasized the value of continuing education in remaining at the top of his field, and in 2020 he completed a credentialing program in accelerating change readiness and agility through the University of California Berkeley.
After graduating from the University of Louisville, Mr. Johnson remained at the school as an academic advisor and coordinator for their minority retention programs, where he initially recognized his passion for institutional diversity advocacy. In 2008, he accepted a position with the University of Kentucky Health Professions Colleges as a diversity recruitment coordinator, rising to become an associate program administrator for the school's Area Health Education Center in 2011. He left the University of Kentucky in 2014 to become the director of recruitment and retention for Frontier Nursing University and became an educational advisor at Bluegrass Community and Technical College the same year.
After building a strong reputation as an innovator in his specialty and a champion for organizational equity, Mr. Johnson was named executive director of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Office of Diversity, Equality, and Training in 2016. He remained in the public sector until 2019, when he shifted his focus to the healthcare space as director of inclusion and diversity at Humana. Since 2022, Mr. Johnson has excelled in his current role as chief inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging officer at Frost Brown Todd, LLP, where he develops diversity, equity, and inclusion policy, training, and budgets in addition to overseeing implementation reviews, partnerships, and corporate social responsibility initiatives. He recently accepted a new role with St. Elizabeth Healthcare as Vice President and Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
As a thought leader in his industry, Mr. Johnson has been interviewed for pieces in the Northern Kentucky Business Journal, Savoy Magazine, and Louisville Business First, among other outlets. He was named one of Savoy Magazine's Most Influential Executives in Diversity and Inclusion for 2023, a 2022 Diversity Global Magazine Top 15 Champion of Diversity, and a 2022 Louisville Business First New Executive to Know, in addition to being a two-time winner of the National Diversity in Leadership Conference DEI Champion Award. Mr. Johnson is active in diversity and inclusion thought leadership and community service work including for Kentucky Derby Festival and the Young Professionals Association of Louisville; he also sits on the board of organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana and several policy councils affiliated with the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
