The purpose of her business is to establish one-on-one, courageous dialogue with clients to help them address and commit to achieving their goals. Moreover, Ms. Reed owns Creative Essence, a thriving floral business. Reimagining the art of floral design, she offers workshops, unique, in-home experiences, and pop-up floral bars. She also caters to retail and corporate events.
Having begun her career in the corporate sector in 2000 as the vice president of corporate talent acquisition at JPMorgan Chase in Chicago, Columbus, and New York, where she led corporate staffing efforts for mid- to entry-level talent positions for finance, operations, and technology divisions. Seeking to transition fully into the educational space, she eventually earned the opportunity to teach as an adjunct professor at Columbia University in the School of International Public Affairs in 2011 and at the University of San Francisco in the School of Management in 2013. Ms. Reed also served as an education consultant at Diversity MBA in Chicago in 2014. However, she remained employed by JPMorgan Chase until 2009. Ms. Reed subsequently served as the director of diversity and inclusion programs and community relations at Sears Holdings Corporation in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, from 2009 to 2012. Transitioning into education fully in 2015, she was hired as a college and career prep counselor with the Waco Independent School District in Waco, Texas, where she remained for two years. Ms. Reed also served as the founding school operations leader for KIPP Bayview Elementary School in San Francisco, between 2017 and 2019, where she was responsible for starting KIPP's first elementary school in Bayview Hunters Point.
Ms. Reed has been active in the nonprofit sector as the California regional board member for Girls Leadership since 2022. Through programs, workshops, and professional development training, the organization offers transformational opportunities for girls, their parents, and their educational communities. Ms. Reed is also active on the Code Nation's Bay Area leadership council board and previously served as an advisory board member of the Oakland Public Education Fund, the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE) and Urban Financial Services Coalition (UFSC).
An experienced writer, Ms. Reed authored "Ready for change – Three amazing Black women share feelings, fears, and hopes for the future of racial equity" in Real Woman magazine's Summer 2020 issue.
Highly educated, Ms. Reed earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1999 and a Master of Arts in Organization and Leadership from the University of San Francisco (USF) in 2013. She also received certification as a coach from the Awaken Coach Institute in 2022. Ms. Reed has been noted for her success with inclusion in Savoy Magazine among the Most Influential Executives in Inclusion and Diversity in 2023. She was previously recognized among the Power 100 Inspiring Women by Diversity Woman Media in 2022, among the Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business by the San Francisco Business Times in 2020, among the Top 100 Under 50 by Diversity MBA Magazine in 2015, and among the Most Powerful Women in Retail and Finance by the Women in Color magazine in 2012.
