AMES, IA, July 17, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Larry W. Cormicle has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A renowned construction professional and educator, Mr. Cormicle is supported by more than 25 years of industry expertise. Matriculating at Iowa State University, he holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in construction engineering and management from 1978 and 2010, respectively. He is a licensed professional engineer in Iowa and a certified executive coach.
At the start of his professional journey, Mr. Cormicle excelled as a senior project manager for Pepper Construction Company and Walsh Construction Company between 1996 and 2002. In 1997, he spearheaded Cormicle Consulting Services, L.L.C. as president, which he continues to do through today.
Pivoting to the educational sector, Mr. Cormicle joined the faculty of his alma mater, Iowa State University, as the Dave and Katy Pepper Teacher Professor in Construction Engineering in 2002. He went on to teach for 17 years until attaining emeritus status in 2019. Since then, he remains involved with Northminster Presbyterian Church in Ames, Iowa, along with his consulting business.
During his tenure at Iowa State University, Mr. Cormicle had been the recipient of various accolades on multiple occasions, including the Award for Academic Advising Impact and Superior Teaching Award for College of Engineering, both in 2018. In addition, he received the 2016 Superior Engineering Advisor Award for College of Engineering, the 2012 Outstanding Adviser Award from the Engineering Student Council, the 2007 Joseph C. and Elizabeth A. Anderlink Faculty Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, the 2007 Memorable Teacher Award and the 2005 Outstanding Faculty Member Award. Mr. Cormicle was also honored with Outstanding Engineering Faculty Member Awards in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Mr. Cormicle served as the faculty adviser to the AGC Student Chapter at Iowa State University for 17 years, during which this student organization was awarded the Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year by AGC of America seven times. Mr. Cormicle served as the faculty coach of student competition teams for 17 years. His teams placed first forty (40) times in the Associated Schools of Construction, Region IV, Construction Management competition each year.
Outside of his accolades from Iowa State University, Mr. Cormicle has also received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Associated Schools of Construction in Birmingham, England in 2012 and the Outstanding Educator Award from the Associated General Contractors of America Education and Research Foundation in 2007. He attributes his success to his focus on providing excellent educational and professional services, whether to building owners or students. Above all, he is most proud to have contributed to preparing successful leaders and executives in the construction industry.
In his local community, Mr. Cormicle has previously contributed to the Lean Construction Institute (US), Greater Des Moines Community of Practice as a leader and vice-leader from 2018 to 2022. He served the City of Ames Building Board of Appeals as a chair and board member from 2007 to 2019 and the ACE Mentor Program of Central Iowa as a board member from 2014 to 2019. In addition, he was the chair of the Building Committee for the Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa from 2004 to 2009.
To remain abreast of his professional work, Mr. Cormicle maintains affiliation with the Lean Construction Institute, the Greater Des Moines Community of Practice of Lean Construction Institute, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Engineering Educators and Tau Beta Phi.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Cormicle's short-term goal is to double the current annual volume of his consulting business, which currently has been growing at 20 to 25 percent a year. He would like to double that in two years. In his spare time, he enjoys photography and spending time with his family.
