Since 2009, he has focused his efforts on ensuring schools, libraries and health clinics, along with their surrounding communities, have access to affordable and high-quality internet connections. Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have been named Broadband Hero of the Year by the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors in 2012.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Windhausen began his career as a counsel with the United States Senate Commerce Committee in 1987. He was a key staffer drafting the 1996 Telecom Act signed by President Clinton, encouraging greater competition for broadband services. Following this time on Capitol Hill, he was the president of the Association for Local Telecommunications Services in 1999 until serving in a similar capacity for Telepoly Consulting from 2004 until 2016.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Windhausen earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Yale University in 1980. Following this achievement, he attained a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1984. Looking to the future, Mr. Windhausen intends to focus more of his time writing about the communications landscape as well as articulating a progressive, consumer-focused set of broadband policies.
