GLASTONBURY, CT, July 18, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Melisa Grove Beiter has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After more than 25 years in the classroom, including as a K-12 math specialist in the public school system in Connecticut, Mrs. Beiter established her own company, Compass Education Solutions, in 2019. She is an education consultant for grades K-12. Through Compass, she provides professional development on mathematical instructional strategies, practices, standards, differentiation, rigor, and student discourse related to the Common Core to K-12 teachers, and coaches. Moreover, Mrs. Beiter provides instructional coaching to educators, and debriefs one-on-one to improve practice and student achievement.
Leveraging her many years of success as an educator, Mrs. Beiter began her career in 1995 as a middle school mathematics teacher at King Philip Middle School, in West Hartford, CT. Mrs. Beiter then joined East Hartford Public Schools as a middle school mathematics teacher in 2000, and from 2010 to 2015, she left the classroom and served as the K-6 mathematics specialist. In 2015, she became an education specialist for multiple districts with ACES, a Regional Education Servicing Center in Hamden, CT.
Dedicated to supporting teachers in becoming facilitators, Mrs. Beiter finds satisfaction in helping to put the accountability of learning onto their students. Looking toward her company's future, she envisions becoming involved in more research on professional development, where other educators and mathematics coaches can share with their district, providing them with the tools they need. Furthermore, Mrs. Beiter anticipates expanding her practice and hiring employees to support her mission.
Apart from her primary roles, Mrs. Beiter was a part of a team that was published for evaluating several of the national assessments, including the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC), the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), Active Student Participation Inspires Real Engagement (ASPIRE), and the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), with the Fordham Institute, led by Amber Northern. Additionally, she was an active member of the Commissioner's Council of Mathematics for the state of Connecticut.
Mrs. Beiter attributes her success and her decision to pursue a mathematics career to her mother's support. While coming of age in a family of accountants and math teachers, she was particularly impressed by her Uncle Stuart, a high school mathematics teacher for 35 years and a college basketball coach for 20 years.
Mrs. Beiter graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 1994, and Quinnipiac University with a Master of Education in 1995. She also earned a Sixth-Year degree in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University in 2000.
Affiliated with several industry-related organizations supporting her career, Mrs. Beiter is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics. She is also active with several Facebook groups, such as Illustrative Mathematics and Building Thinking Classrooms.
Mrs. Beiter's most rewarding moments include the positive feedback and appreciation from teachers she has worked with in her professional development sessions. Additionally, she notes the sense of accomplishment in helping change the way others think as they take risks to try new educational strategies and practices, particularly veteran teachers and those hesitant to adapt and change.
