Since 2014, he has focused his efforts on management for the publication and developing the business strategy for the company's editorial department. Additionally, he is a valued member of the National Sports Media Association, the International Sports Press Association, the Associated Press Sports Editors Group and the Track and Field Writers Association of America.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Battaglia began his career as a sports writer for the Newark Star-Ledger in 1993 and became a senior web producer for the NBC Olympics in 2007. While in the latter role, he also was a senior web producer and assistant managing editor for Universal Sports from 2008 until 2012. Following this period, he was a freelance writer in 2013 before returning to NBC Olympics as senior web producer for the Sochi Winter Olympics. Later in 2014, he took a role as the director of content for FloSports, earning a promotion to managing editor in 2016 and to vice president in 2020.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Battaglia was named Sportswriter of the Year by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association in 1999, was the recipient of the Jesse Abramson Award for Excellence in Track & Field Journalism in 2011, and won Sports Emmy Awards from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2009 and again in 2015. He also was listed on the 50 Must-Follow Twitter list for the London Olympics by Sports Illustrated in 2012. Added to these, he was on the Top 10 Ranking for the Americas in the AIPS 2018 Sports Media Awards and Top 30 Ranking Globally for the AIPS 2019 Sports Media Awards, receiving sixth place for the AIPS 2021 Sports Media Awards Video Athlete Profile.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Battaglia earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from Seton Hall University in 1997. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified professional in management by the American Management Association and holds a master social media certification from Splash Media. Additionally, he completed programs in executive leadership from the University of Oxford Saïd Business School; psychology of leadership from Cornell University; strategic management from The University of Pennsylvania Wharton Business School; and leadership in a remote environment from Harvard University. Within the coming years, Mr. Battaglia intends to grow MileSplit, working with the company's internal team to grow the sport of track and field by creating an essential destination for fans, athletes, and followers.
