Drawing on years of professional experience leading up to her career in law, Ms. Maurer presently excels as an associate attorney for Wizards of the Coast, through which she serves as the in-house adviser for the Dungeons & Dragons, digital gaming, and data privacy business teams. Previously, she worked for Wizards of the Coast as a law clerk and legal extern, and as a research and teaching assistant at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she also served as the Judge Ben C. Green Law Library Research Fellow. Alongside her work, Ms. Maurer contributes to her community as an ambassador for Women in Games and a Bar Prep Essay Grader for the Themis Bar Review, as well as a former volunteer with the Humane Society of Greater Rochester. An expert in her field, she holds a Bachelor of Science in history and anthropology from SUNY Brockport and a Master of Library and Information Science in digital librarianship from Kent State University. Subsequently, she expanded upon her professional knowledge, earning a JD in law, technology, and the arts from Case Western Reserve University. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. Maurer aligns herself with the New York State Bar Association, the Monroe County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the Video Game Bar Association. As of the date of this Press Release, membership is pending for the Washington State Bar Association.
In light of her outstanding body of work, Ms. Maurer has been honored on several occasions, earning the Fessenden Law, Technology, and the Arts Scholarship from Case Western Reserve University, the Aspiring Women in Games Scholarship from Activision Blizzard King, and an Excellence for the Future Award in LGBT+ Legal Issues through the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction. While her path has been filled with highlights, she is most proud of transitioning into her current role and being published in legal journals three times in one year. The cornerstone of her success lay in giving herself time to determine the best course for her career. In the coming years, Ms. Maurer hopes to return to teaching alongside her continued work in the technology and gaming sectors of law and intends to grow her legal authorship.
