Through his creation of Reel Action Advisors, he served as the technical advisor for the hit television show, "NCIS: Los Angeles" for seasons 4 through 14 and was elevated in season 14 by CBS Studio's to: Associate Producer NCIS: Los Angeles.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. Burghard dedicated himself to the United States Marine Corps, initially enlisting as a Private, rising to the rank of Lance Corporal before he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University (in under 3 years). At the Florham Madison, NJ campus graduation ceremony, he was in his Maine Corps dress white uniform as a newly commissioned Second Lieutenant of Marines, surrounded by a sea of gowned fellow graduates. During the commencement, the Marine Corps Hymn was played, thanks to one of his professors, Dr. Philip Justus (a LtCol in the US Army Reserve at the time). Lt. Burghard rose to the position of attention for the duration of the hymn, as has been tradition since the year 1775. Following, the other graduates, college officials and voluminous family members, gave a round of applause. Subsequently, Mr. Burghard expanded upon his professional knowledge earning a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Troy University, where he achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA and was inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha, the global honor society for public affairs and administration. He was also made a member of MENSA, the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world.
Outside of his work, he contributes his expertise to film students at Long Beach City College. A student produced documentary film about his having been wounded by a bomb blast in Iraq while serving with the Marine Corps, and his miraculous recovery and subsequent career accomplishments, was honored with a Telly Award statue, and was a subsequent nominee for a PRISM Award by the Entertainment Industries Council.

Another standout aspect of his career has been establishing Reel Action Advisors where he engages some of his past "battle buddies" on his board of directors, as this has given him the opportunity to work with and guide seasoned actors with their portrayal of military and law enforcement characters. The cornerstone of his success lay in his belief that "failure, is not an option." Currently engaged as a technical consultant in the emerging series NCIS: Sydney, Mr. Burghard intends to continue supporting that show as well as other emerging projects.
