A seasoned medical technologist with years of professional experience to his credit, Mr. Tom presently works for the Garnet Health Medical Center as the lead medical technologist. In this capacity, he ensures that operations are running smoothly, runs blood tests to assess for abnormal cells within patient samples, and monitors patients' electrolytes and hormones. During the early stages of his career, Mr. Tom gained valuable expertise in the field as a medical laboratory scientist with Monmouth Medical Center and as a researcher and technician while at Penn State in their Material Research Institute Scientific Laboratory and later was awarded the PPG Fellowship award."
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Tom aligns himself with the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Society of Microbiology, and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. Outside of his work, he has also contributed to the community by becoming a volunteer EMS and firefighter. He also helped with building shelves and purchasing storage bins, carts and a ladder for the local food bank. He has attained the honorary title of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. An expert in his field, Mr. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University, A Bachelor of Science in Medical laboratory Science from Kean University and a master's degree in clinical laboratory science from Rutgers University, as well as being a student of the Doctoral of Clinical Laboratory Science from Rutgers.
In light of his outstanding body of work, Mr. Tom co-authored a research project with his fellow laboratory science students and a university professor. Similarly, he was nominated for National Youth Leadership for High School Students and was named on the Dean's List at Penn State University. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in obtaining his master's degree and being selected to serve as vice chair of the diversity advocacy group for the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science. The cornerstone of his success lay with his parents, receiving great guidance from his directors and teachers, and surrounding himself with positive people.
