Having established his clinic in 1996, Dr. Chen began by offering his expertise as a prestigious hand and microsurgery physician. In 2010, he began focusing exclusively on aesthetic surgery, developing a reputation as a sought-after expert. Dr. Chen performs surgery at the Sandia Surgery Center, where he also serves as the co-medical director at Sandia Surgery Center since 2015. Throughout his career, Dr. Chen has operated at the Presbyterian Hospital, Saint Joseph/Lovelace Hospital, Heart Hospital, Women's Hospital, Albuquerque Surgery Center, and the Physician Surgery Center. While completing his residency work, he also had the opportunity to spend time volunteering in Ecuador and performing cleft lip procedures, which he found very gratifying.
Dr. Chen graduated from Haverford College in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, magna cum laude. He subsequently received a Doctor of Medicine, cum laude, at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship, general surgical residency, and plastic surgery residency from Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and a fellowship in hand and microsurgery from the University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Chen is board-certified in plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery and received a certificate in added qualification in surgery of the hand.
As a dedicated medical professional, Dr. Chen is active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
Recognizing his accomplishments, Dr. Chen has been named a 2023 Top Doctor in Albuquerque Magazine, a 2022 Reader's Choice in the Albuquerque Journal, and a 2020 Top Three Plastic Surgeon in Albuquerque. While in college, he received a First Prize in Chemistry at Haverford College.
