YUMA, AZ, July 25, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert N. Masson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. For more than 15 years, Mr. Masson has been leading his industry as a research agronomist, presently affiliated with the University of Arizona as a Yuma County assistant agricultural extension agent since 2019. Offering extensive expertise in agronomy, water management, fertility, soil health, and other areas of the industry, he is passionate about developing more effective methods to solve various agricultural problems and make more nutritious foods available.
As a part of his responsibilities, Mr. Masson conducts needs assessment surveys and interviews with growers, conducts research through literature and field experiments via a 514-acre research farm to find solutions, and writes reports to demonstrate short-, mid-, and long-term impacts of new products and methods on the agricultural community. Among his most significant undertaking thus far, he has been involved in an irrigation efficiency project, which will help farms with water conservation needs throughout the West and foster community building. Mr. Masson is presently conducting drought research and requires collaborators interested in helping improve water sustainability conditions in his region. Looking toward the future, he aims to refine his agricultural community's old irrigation system. He also hopes to introduce salt management and new irrigation technology to the industry.
As a research agronomist, Mr. Masson formerly worked for Research Designed for Agriculture in Yuma from 2017 to 2019. He also garnered experience at Weaver Popcorn in Whitestown, Indiana, between 2014 and 2017 as a research scientist and at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, from 2007 to 2014 as a soybean breeding technician responsible for conducting nursery, yield, and abiotic stress trials for its public soybean breeding program.
Before working in the industry, Mr. Masson served his country in the U.S. Navy in its aircraft intermediate maintenance department in Norfolk, Virginia, from 1997 to 2002. As a USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier crew member, he focused on the intermediate-level repair of aircraft armament equipment.
Locally, Mr. Masson enjoys membership with Rotary International's Yuma branch. He is helping the organization renovate the local playgrounds of the Young Men's Christian Association and the Boys and Girls Club of Yuma Inc.
Mr. Masson graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor's degree in botany in 2007 and a master's degree in plant breeding in 2014. He is active in his industry as a prominent member of the Seed Trade Association of Arizona and a participant of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.
