She has earned distinction as an adult nurse practitioner with the Bristol Hospital Multi-Specialty Group, Inc. Since 2017, she has focused her efforts on overseeing diverse patient populations from young adults to geriatrics. She addresses common and complex health issues; with routine exams, preventative screenings, medication management, and acute and chronic disease management and treatment. She promotes wellness utilizing health counseling and education strategies with a holistic approach incorporating patient-practitioner shared decision making partnerships. She also has a special interest in obesity management and medical weight loss.
Additionally, Ms. Dawson-Camerota is a courtesy faculty clinical instructor in the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty, at Yale University School of Nursing since 2015. She also lends her expertise as a valued member to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, the Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Association and the National Nurse Practitioner Entrepreneur Network, among other professional nursing organizations. Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy and her faith, she has engaged in medical missions in Africa and Mexico and created a community outreach program for homeless individuals in her community through her church.
Before her present role, Ms. Dawson-Camerota served as a medical and surgical float nurse with Mercy Regional Health Center in 2001 and became a critical care registered nurse for The Hospital of Central Connecticut in 2007. She worked concurrently in critical care and as an emergency registered nurse for New Milford Hospital in 2008 for seven years until becoming an adult nurse practitioner for the Community Health and Wellness Center of Greater Torrington in 2015. Among her professional accomplishments, she was named Preceptor of the Year by the Yale University School of Nursing and received a Nightingale Award of Excellence in 2020, a once in-a-lifetime achievement that celebrates and elevates the nursing profession and recognizes nurses who have made a significant impact on patient care and/or the profession.
To prepare for her nursing career, Ms. Dawson-Camerota completed a licensed practical nurse certificate from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School in 2000. She earned an Associate of Science in nursing from Manhattan Area Technical College in 2005. Following this achievement, she attained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009 and a Master of Science in Nursing as an adult nurse practitioner in 2014, both from Western Connecticut State University.
Within the coming years, Ms. Dawson-Camerota intends to help the Bristol Hospital Multi-Specialty Group, Inc. to create an onboarding program for advanced practice providers, enabling her to provide more professional development opportunities for their providers and desires to become an advanced practice provide lead in internal medicine. For her own professional development, she aspires to accomplish a doctoral degree in nursing practice and establish her own medical practice, focusing on obesity management and medical weight loss.
