With more than a decade of excellence in developing school-wide behavior systems, Ms. Lang has earned distinction as the Dean for Denver Public Schools' McGlone Academy. Since 2019, she has focused her efforts on collaborating with the principal and the assistant principals on school leadership goals, values and visions for the school. She shadows other deans and engages in coaching and modeling for them on how to respond to challenging behaviors. Her specialty is in responding to and de-escalating disruptive or unsafe students, elucidating effective protocols to help them become regulated, refocused and ready to return to the classroom. She also delivers professional development opportunities to her staff, enabling them to improve their knowledge on social-emotional learning and de-escalation.
Additionally, Ms. Lang has been an educational consultant with her own firm, Heidi A. Lang Educational Consultant, LLC, since 2019. She helps construct school-wide behavior systems, multi-tiered systems of support interventions, social-emotional learning curricula, restorative practices and other trauma-informed practices to support student learning, self-regulation and problem-solving skills.
Before starting her present role, Ms. Lang began her career as a teacher for Cherry Drive Elementary in 2009, then spent four years teaching at Lavaland Elementary School in 2010 followed by teaching at Columbine Elementary School in 2015. The following year, she served as the Dean of Culture for Roots Elementary until 2019. Among her professional accomplishments, she is proud to have been elected the leader of the Instructional Council of Albuquerque and was named Teacher of the Month several times throughout her career. She was also awarded a $1000 classroom grant from Albuquerque's Assistant Superintendent to support her stellar work with her students.
To prepare for her career as an educator, Ms. Lang earned a degree in psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2007. Following this achievement, she attained a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of New England in 2014. Well-qualified in her profession, she holds a certificate in elementary curriculum and instruction from the University of Colorado Denver.
Looking to the future, Ms. Lang intends to continue building her consulting company while visiting more schools and helping them with challenging behavior situations, restorative practices and schoolwide tiered behavior supports. Having always had a talent for working with challenging behaviors in children, she will also begin working as the Lead Dean of her ECE-8th grade academy school, coaching the other deans and Restorative Practice Coordinators on how to handle these behaviors with trauma-informed practices and a focus on connections over compliance.
