LOS ANGELES, CA, July 27, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sonya Reese Greenland with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Greenland celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Greenland is a former tenured teacher and tutor who remains active in her retirement as a community historian and activist. Having taught as an elementary school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 40 years, she spent another decade as a tutor and fourth-grade teacher at Lifelong Learning from 2003 to 2013, typically tutoring children through adults in various subjects.
As an only child, Ms. Greenland was very curious about the world. Fortunately, she had an excellent elementary school teacher who inspired her career choice later in life. After college, Ms. Greenland worked for a local Head Start program. She also briefly worked in property management and the nonprofit sector.
As a longtime family historian of more than 20 years, Ms. Greenland was responsible for publishing "The Wizard of Venice." The book focused on her grandfather, Rev. Arthur Lloyd Reese, recognized as Venice's most prosperous African American businessman and former head of Abbot Kinney Company. Inspired to write the book while volunteering her time during Black History Month, Ms. Greenland noticed that the teachers' center library lacked information about the history of Venice and thought it would be an excellent opportunity to contribute to its collection.
Ms. Greenland is a member and vice president of the Venice Historical Society and a member of the Preservation of Public Places and The Cultural Education Project. Looking toward the future, she aims to continue writing about her experiences. Ms. Greenland has notably traveled to approximately 25 countries thus far, learning about her multicultural background.
Ms. Greenland graduated from California State University in Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and a Master of Arts in reading. She also received credentials as an elementary school teacher and reading specialist in California.
