Drawing on over four decades of expertise in the legal field, Mr. Scott specializes in civil, family and criminal law. Since 2007, he has found much success as a circuit judge for the State of Florida. Prior to this role, he excelled as the attorney and owner of his private law firm for two decades. He initially began his vocation working in the Ocala Police Department, where he served in a variety of roles, including as a jailer, a dispatcher and a patrol officer, followed by a post of a road deputy, drug agent, police officer and a sheriff's deputy with the Marion County Sheriff's Office. After a significant career in law enforcement, Mr. Scott also contributed to the State Attorney's Officer and the Public Defender's Office as an attorney.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Scott pursued an education at the University of Central Florida, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and public administration in 1978, followed by a master's degree in criminal justice from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fl in 1982. He continued his academic efforts at the Samford University Cumberland School of Law, in Birmingham, Al., earning a Juris Doctor in 1987. As a commitment to his field, Mr. Scott has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the Florida Trial Lawyers Association, The American Trial Lawyers Association, and Florida Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mr. Scott is a member of the Florida Federal Middle District Court, Federal Northern District Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeal, United States Supreme Court, Florida Supreme Court and Florida District Court of Appeals. Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Scott is most proud of his involvement in an age discrimination class action, representing over 100 Plaintiffs, with multiple Defendants. The case lasted more than 10 years, with three appeals, one to the U.S. Supreme Court before it was resolved.
Additionally, he is gratified to have litigated civil, personal injury, civil rights and employment discrimination cases for Plaintiffs, participated in over 250 state and federal court trials, including eight first degree murder cases, and prosecuted more than 60 appeals in both state and federal courts. Looking forward to the future, Mr. Scott continues to work as a Senior Circuit Judge in the Fifth Circuit of Florida and hopes to continually thrive both personally and professionally.
