With a distinguished career in the design industry, Mr. Gumowski's journey from craftsman to global creative visionary has been nothing short of remarkable. From his artisan years in the picturesque hills of Tuscany, reviving rustic farmhouses into sought after agriturismos, and on to his early career as a designer, builder, and fabricator at the esteemed design-build firm, Rockhill and Associates in the Kansas City metropolitan area; it was abundantly clear that blending the artistry of craft with the hospitality of culture and experience would illuminate his passion for connecting people with place.
Following his tenure in the Midwest, Mr. Gumowski continued to excel as he joined Gensler first in Chicago, then venturing on to Los Angeles in 2005. During his time at Gensler, he held various leadership roles, including Design Director and Global Hospitality Leader, helping clients to manifest their dreams, and delivering many award-winning projects around the world. His impressive portfolio boasts successful ventures across the fields of architecture, interior design, urban planning, and placemaking, including the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, CA, Hotel Chaco in Albuquerque, NM, AVA Resort in Riviera Cancun, Mexico, Denver International Airport's Hotel and Transit Center in Denver, CO, the Ritz Carlton Hotel & Residences in Los Angeles, CA, and the Grand Hyatt in Incheon, South Korea.
In 2018, Mr. Gumowski embarked on an exciting new journey as the leader of Google's global design, strategy, and innovation team. He passionately focused on elevating amenities and spearheading community programs, driving forward progress and enhancing user experiences, urban streetscapes, and cultural engagement around the world; including highlights such as Google's Global Headquarters at Charleston East in Mountain View, CA, the Bayview Campus and Suites in Sunnyvale, CA, the Westside Pavillion Campus in Los Angeles, CA; Pier 57's Event, Community, and Culinary experience in New York, NY, Google's London Headquarters in King's Cross, UK, and Google's German Headquarters at Arnulfpost in Munich.
Even amidst his demanding career, he found solace in pursuing one of his greatest passions – the great outdoors. This led him to serve on the global customer council for Airstream in 2021, helping to drive future innovations, brand culture, product quality, an unparalleled service experience, and sustainable design solutions. With wholehearted dedication, Mr. Gumowski now collaborates alongside his partner and wife, Clara Kim, to unleash the full potential of their design firm, STUTTIO. Mr. Gumowski earned a Bachelor of Science in architectural engineering and construction management from the University of Kansas in 2001. He subsequently secured a certificate for architecture, engineering, and construction integrated technologies from Stanford University in 2002, and a Master of Architecture in design, construction, and fabrication from the University of Kansas in 2004.
Mr. Gumowski attributes his success to the unwavering inspiration and support from his parents, David and Mary Jo Gumowski. He learned from them that embracing one's true passion and fully immersing oneself in the journey is the key to living life to the fullest. He is also extremely grateful to his most influential professors for believing in him: Paola Sanguinetti, Bruce Johnson, and Jim Hicks; and also, several professional mentors for helping to guide him down the path: Gaylord Richardson, Rene Diaz, Silvano Fanti, Riccio Pigozzo, Francesca Cinelli, Randall Stratton, Dan Rockhill, Andy Cohen, Tom Ito, Mary Davidge, and Dave Broz.
