RIVERWOODS, IL, July 31, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Schuman has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Schuman is an artist and gallerist who has dedicated her career to fostering community, spirituality, and expression. Before beginning her creative career, Ms. Schuman completed secretarial and administrative assistant coursework at Robert Morris College. Through the 1980s, she studied oil painting at the Edward Cathiony Studio of Art, where she refined her visual expression and fine arts skills.
Ms. Schuman began her career as a personal assistant and junior accounts manager at the Garfield-Linn Advertising Agency, where she worked from 1981 until 1983. In 1996, she founded the Dancing Krow Studio, a gallery and studio space that has been home to a vibrant community of multimedia artists and creators. The gallery was born from Ms. Schuman's efforts to revitalize the Oak Park neighborhood of Chicago where she and her husband had long owned property. During a period of economic decline for the area, Ms. Schuman partnered with a community activist to create art galleries in vacant and underused commercial spaces. Initially called "The Art House," Dancing Krow Studio was first formed when the pair rented two adjacent storefronts and established a nonprofit organization to protect their vision.
Since 1996, Dancing Krow Studio has operated continuously, showcasing painting, works on paper, and three-dimensional works in addition to Ms. Schuman's own fiber art pieces. She has been featured in eleven editions of the American Art Collector Book and has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including a 2021 first place and a 2023 second place prize from the Art League in Oak Park. As a part of her commitment to community outreach and fostering creativity, Ms. Schuman is a longtime member of the Oak Park Arts District and has helped host art workshops for community members experiencing homelessness. In the coming years, Ms. Schuman hopes to continue her work in the arts and spiritual development with an emphasis on helping others learn to live in harmony with nature.
