Prior to his current role, Mr. Wilkie began his career as a residential counselor for the Weston TLC Transitional Living Community in 2010 assisting many individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses. During this time, he also served as a case manager for MTI Residential Services in 2011 and with the Center for Urban Community Services in 2012. He subsequently functioned as a mental health counselor intern for the Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey in 2013, earning a promotion to a recovery counselor in 2014 and to an HCBS team leader in 2019. In 2021, he became the program director for the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health.
To prepare for his career as a mental health professional, Mr. Wilkie earned a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences with a concentration in psychology from Allen University in 2007. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Science in mental health counseling from Capella University in 2014. Well-qualified in his profession, he holds a mental health counselor license from the New York State Education Department.
Within the coming years, Mr. Wilkie intends to create more community spaces in New York for people of color to find safety, community and support. As part of this, he will continue his work with Black men who are living with depression and anxiety, promoting the space created for Black men to heal. Added to this, he is a science fiction fantasy writer with four short novels published online and a full-length book due to be published by the end of 2023.
