LOVELAND, CO, August 01, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Candace Nicole Oates has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. A person of service, Ms. Oates dedicates her career to helping save lives as the co-founder and Executive Director of Obesity Awareness In Action (OAA). Established in 2021, the nonprofit organization's mission is to encourage communities to move by helping them develop better lifestyle choices, particularly in underserved communities. OAA also focuses on the youth population via its Awareness Bound Youth Health and Wellness education program, which serves grades six through 12. The organization also recently partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Larimar County and College For Kids through Aims Community College to teach the youth about the eight dimensions of wellness. All classes take place in Northern Colorado and West Des Moines, Iowa. Ms. Oates has plans to take OAA's Awareness Bound program national in the future.
Enthusiastic about helping others through the formation of OAA, Ms. Oates chose a particularly interesting time to launch her nonprofit. Many people had been experiencing weight gain and were becoming sluggish due to the COVID-19 pandemic that had plagued the world. Ms. Oates knew that if there was ever a good time, it was then that her services would be beneficial. Relying on her extensive background in fitness, she previously garnered recognition in the health and wellness space as a health coach, personal trainer, and diabetes prevention specialist with the City of Loveland for nearly a decade. Ms. Oates also spent many years teaching such programs as Silver Sneakers, Aqua Fit, TRX, Barre, Vinyasa Yoga, and much more. Inspiring others has been and continues to be what she is most passionate about.
Initially, Ms. Oates chose to pursue a career in the industry after losing 125 pounds to save her life. Previously pre-diabetic with high cholesterol and high blood pressure, she had been so overweight at one point that she was six months pregnant and did not know it until she began bleeding. Advised to make a significant lifestyle change, Ms. Oates began participating in educational courses on dietary intake and earned certifications in the health and wellness sector.
During an earlier stage of her career, Ms. Oates spent nearly a decade as a police officer in Des Moines, Iowa. She was recognized as only the second African American female to ever serve on the town's force.
Through her organization, Ms. Oates is a member of the Loveland Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Gives Foundation. She enjoys giving back in any way she can.
A graduate of Ball State University, Ms. Oates earned a Bachelor of Arts in international advertising and marketing in 1998. Well-qualified in her industry, she received certification as a health coach, fitness instructor and personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. Ms. Oates is also a certified motivational speaker through IAP College.
Garnering much success in her community, Ms. Oates was recognized with inclusion in the African American Hall of Fame in Des Moines, Iowa, and with a Best of the West by the Loveland Chamber of Commerce.
