Smiley, PhD, distinguished teaching professor emerita at the State University of New York at Oswego, has been selected for a cover feature in the Twelfth Edition of Marquis Millennium Magazine. Joining the State University of New York at Oswego in 1961, Dr. Marilynn J. Smiley served as a faculty member of the music department until attaining emerita status in 2014. During her longstanding tenure at SUNY Oswego, she excelled as chairperson of the music department between 1976 and 1981, as well as a distinguished teaching professor from 1974 to 2014. During her time teaching, Dr. Smiley taught courses on all periods of music history, as well as American music, Beethoven and women in music. Additionally, she had pursued research interests in Renaissance and American music, all while contributing scholarly articles to professional journals and giving presentations at conferences and symposia.
