EDINA, MN, August 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steven Rakes has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Inspired by his father, the son of an immigrant farmer from Greece, as well as numerous doctors he knew growing up, Dr. Rakes was encouraged to pursue a career in medicine. After completing his undergraduate degree in biology, he received an MD from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1982. Subsequently, he completed an internship and residency in ophthalmology through the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education. He then did fellowship studies at Wright State University in the area of oculoplastic and orbital surgery.
After completing his fellowship training, Dr. Rakes began his career at Park Nicollet Clinic in Minneapolis, MN. He served as director of ambulatory surgery for 15 years and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology for 20 years. He runs a busy surgical practice and has authored many papers and book chapters in his field. He has published a book on his travels to Holy Mount Athos in Greece. The title of that work is "Wisdom from the Holy Mountain: Life Lessons from the Monks of Mount Athos," published in 2023.
Dr. Rakes has been voted "Top Doctor" for 20 years by Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine. The next five to ten years will be filled with efforts to continually grow professionally and personally. Research and publishing will be a continued focus of his life. He hopes to apply the lessons learned on Mount Athos to his medical practice.
